'East Fork Pottery' Creates Beautiful Handmade Goods for Millennials

In the same way that many direct-to-consumer start-ups have disrupted many stagnant industries, East Fork Pottery helps consumers easily purchase beautifully designed, handmade dinnerware. Notably, East Fork Pottery is a venture from Henri Matisse’s great-grandson, Alex Matisse, and his wife Connie.

While there are now plenty of modern tools that help to speed up the pottery-making process—such as electric kilns—East Fork Pottery aims to introduce the beauty and integrity of handmade goods to a new generation. As Connie says, "We imagine twenty- and thirtysomethings registering for our plates and mugs, filling their homes with things we made. We imagine their toddlers drinking milk from little handmade tumblers."

Some of the products that are available for purchase through the D2C start-up include precious brass serving spoons, cast iron casserole dishes, hand-blown drinking glasses and linen napkins.
