The Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity is excited to announces the launch of The Curious 100, a groundbreaking initiative honoring one hundred courageous and innovative leaders spanning an array of creative disciplines. Drawing inspiration from the insatiable curiosity of the Institute’s namesakes, Ray and Charles Eames, The Curious 100 is a testament to the boundless potential of curiosity to shape a brighter, more creative and equitable future–at a time where we need that vision more than ever.
The Curious 100 honors the Eameses’ curiosity and interdisciplinary approach to design, which continue to inspire innovation and creative problem-solving globally. Scott Shigeoka, author, researcher, and a key partner on The Curious 100, identifies curiosity as a powerful tool for personal growth, deeper connection, and meaningful change. He emphasizes that curiosity allows people to break free from their biases, challenge assumptions, approach others with empathy, and cultivate resilience, creativity, and a willingness to evolve.
Selected from a broad spectrum of disciplines––spanning food, arts, design, technology, community-building, and social impact––the selected honorees represent the transformative impact of curiosity across ten dynamic categories, including Builders, Makers, Reformers, and Storytellers. The Curious 100 is a celebration of courageous leaders and creative minds across the United States who are harnessing the transformative power of curiosity to solve today’s most pressing problems—whether it’s combating climate change, advancing racial justice, addressing the housing crisis, or tackling food insecurity. This list includes a wide range of advocates, from those championing regenerative agriculture and material use to those supporting some of the most vulnerable communities in our society.
Honorees include Theaster Gates, the world-renowned artist transforming Chicago’s South Side through urban renewal and community-building projects, Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, author and a leading climate advocate revolutionizing marine conservation and Sean Sherman, known as The Sioux Chef, a trailblazer in advancing Indigenous cuisine and food sovereignty. Other include Adrienne Maree Brown, author and facilitator who nurtures ideas and practices for transformation and healing and Hannah Beachler, the Academy Award-winning production designer for Black Panther, recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to cinematic storytelling and culture.
