Liselot Cobelens Designs the Dryland Rug in Four Looks

Liselot Cobelens presents its new Dryland rug at Dutch Design Week and it imagines real-world visual data on how climate change has been impacting local landscapes. It presents four different consequences of drought through the form of rugs including loss of crops and animals, dehydration, land subsidence, and wildfires.

All of these have affected a particular region in the Netherlands. She speaks about her designs, stating "I was thinking what kind of product or material is the best way of showing a landscape problem," Cobelens told Dezeen. "And then I came across tufting, which kind of gives a symbolic sense of how plants grow. From then on, everywhere I looked in the landscape, I saw rugs,"
