The LAFD Announced It Will Double Its Existing Drone Fleet

The Los Angeles Fire Department is currently looking toward drastically increasing its drone fleet. The announcement was made by the department's Battalion Chief Richard Field, who stated that the department will double its numbers. The Los Angeles Fire Department partnered with DJI five months ago, in order to foster the use of drones in the department.

Currently, the department has 11 drones that it uses to help crews deal with potentially dangerous materials. Additionally, drones can be used for searches, as well as to provide different vantage points that can be used to combat fires.

The LAFD has an extensive training program for its drone pilots, Richard Field indicated that LAFD drone pilots undergo 80 hours of training.
