Donna Ruff Carves Intricate Artworks from Old Newspapers

Most people throw their old newspapers out or use them to protect fine china, but artist Donna Ruff likes to make beautiful art from her discarded New York Times copies. In these examples, the artist has taken the from The New York Times and cut amazingly detailed repetitive motifs into them, making them look like the design you might see on a church window.

The New Mexico based artist spent her early life in Miami Beach, Florida and then went on to become and award-winning children's book illustrator living in New York. The artist says that she finds "beauty and inspiration" in "sacred texts such as the Torah and the Qur’an but also in the New York Times and the Manhattan Phone book" as well as "the warehouses of Chicago and Brooklyn."
