Illuminating Sleep Metronomes

'Dodow' Uses Light to Teach Users to Slow Down Their Breathing

There are many gadgets, supplements and products on the market that aim to help consumers get a better night of sleep, but Dodow is setting itself apart with an approach that encourages people to simply connect with their breath.

Dodow is a device that takes the form of a metronome with a pulsing light system that gets projected onto the ceiling over one's bed. Users are meant to synchronize their breaths with the patterns, causing a slow-down from 11 to just six breaths per minute. This slowed breathing also activates a reflex that also triggers the heart rate and blood pressure decrease, helping to relieve anxiety as well.

As a result of using the device to focus one's attentions on the breath, Dodow promises to help people "fall asleep or get back to sleep 2.5 times faster on average."
