Macaulay Sinclair's Take on the Dishroom Follows a Story

The "prolific restaurant" the Dishroom just opened a new location, the establishment's "first new London venue in five years." Much like their previous openings, co-founders Shamil and Kavi Thakrar enlisted the architecture studio, Macaulay Sinclair, for the interior design.

Dishroom Canary Wharf is visually stunning with its warm color palette and subtly opulent features. Shamil Thakrar explains that "when [ Kavi and him] create a Dishroom, [they] always start with a story" and this time is no different. For this new space, the co-founders and architecture studio agreed to imagine an Iranian cafe near the Bombay Stock Exchange in India. The time period is the 1970s, adding a retro feel. The owner of this fictional Iranian cafe is a "financial fraudster." Accordingly, this gave the architects the opportunity to experiment with an aesthetic that "has a rich history of financial intrigue."
