Drew "MAiJiN" Lewis is an artist based in Los Angeles who creates incredibly realistic digital painting art that features familiar faces from the films, TV programs, comics and animations that captured his interest throughout his childhood. The stars of Lewis' art include characters like Wonder Woman, Alex from A Clockwork Orange and Robocop, rendered in a unique style that has helped Lewis establish a name for himself as a master digital painter.
Although he won a regional art contest at the age of 16 and was presented with a scholarship to attend the prestigious Ryman Program for Young Artists, Lewis went on to make a living as a mortgage broker. When the financial crisis of 2007/2008 hit, Lewis knew it was time to make a drastic change in terms of career. Fueled by a true passion for the arts, Lewis worked by night to develop his skills as a self-taught artist. As a result, people took notice and Lewis now has thousands of creatives following his work on DeviantArt.
Long before experimenting with digital media, Lewis worked in watercolor and gouache, looking to icons like Da Vinci and Caravaggio to help refine his craft. Now, he puts programs like Photoshop and Corel Painter to work, allowing him to complete mess-free paintings in anywhere from six to 12 hours.
Lewis now works as a professional illustrator, creating everything from graphic design to fashion illustrations, storyboards and concept art for clients. Moving forward with his personal work, Lewis aims to make his paintings even more hyperrealistic and create cinematic-style scenes that look like you could walk right into them.
