Sixty-Year-Old Diana Nyad Prepares to Swim Cuba to Florida

Sixty-year-old Diana Nyad is preparing to swim the 103-mile distance from Cuba to Florida this month -- 31 years after she first made the attempt. Nyad was considered to be the world's greatest long-distance swimmer for most of the 1970's. In 1979, she made a 102.5 mile swim from the Bahamas to Florida -- the longest in history to that point.

Diana Nyad hadn't done ocean swimming for over 30 years, until a year ago when she began training to make the Cuba to Florida swim. She'll be nearly 61 years old. Nyad hopes that her success will spur other boomers to shelve the idea that they are too old to live their dreams and start making them come true.
