Canada Gives Prince William and Kate Middleton Diamond Polar Bears

As Prince William and Kate Middleton continue the last leg of their Canadian tour, they have received diamond polar bears to commemorate their time in the Northwest Territories. For Prince William, there were a set of 2.48-karat cufflinks, and for the Duchess, a 4.5-karat platinum and pavé diamond brooch. Signifying "mutual respect and affection," this gift is distinctively Canadian.

Designed by Harry Winston, the diamond polar bears take on the shape of the official polar bear logo of Canada's Northwest Territories. The diamond is also the official gemstone of the Northwest Territories. Created with diamonds mined at the Diavik Diamond Mine, the Diamond Polar Bears "combine Harry Winston design and craftsmanship with the natural beauty of Northwest Territories diamonds," as said by Robert Gannicott, chairman and CEO of Harry Winston.
