A Detroit high school student recently produced an adaptable stroller that is specially designed for wheelchair users. While many mothers enjoy taking their new baby out for a stroll, this can be a difficult task for wheelchair-bound parents. Alden Kane decided to help wheelchair users find a better way to carry their children.
Kane developed the adaptable stroller as part of a high school research project. Kane specially developed his device for a wheelchair-bound mother named Sharina Jones. Kane consulted Jones throughout the design process in order to create a baby carrier that would suit her needs. The final product consists of a lightweight car seat that easily clips to the user's wheelchair.
While Kane's device is just a prototype, his project demonstrates the need for companies to develop strollers that are specially designed for wheelchair users.
