Denis Andernach Renders Abstract Structures within Barren Landscapes

It’s hard to believe that Denis Andernach isn’t drawing these images of abstract architectural structures based on references since they all look so lifelike. Andernach explains that he illustrates, "houses for landscapes and landscapes for houses," experimenting with ways to integrate buildings into its surroundings in a harmonious manner. In essence, he’s doing the job of an architect, but he does so for imaginary places and exclusively on a blank page. This gives him greater control over the terrains and structures he features in his work, creating ideal places that could never actually exist in the real world.

Also admirable about Denis Andernach’s work is his use of negative space. Some of his more shadow-filled images are evocative of comic panels from a Frank Miller graphic novel, only with much more technical prowess.
