Feisty Feminists Rally Against Sexism with Humor

Defined Lines - Consent Shouldn't be Blurred

Robin Thicke’s "Blurred Lines" has been a popular summer hit for the singer, but the video and lyrics have undergone some serious scrutiny. Namely, the video features inappropriate hash-tagging, gratuitous nudity, and some lyrics about good girls "wanting it". This has sparked a recent influx of parody videos. One in particular has garnered a lot of attention- even from YouTube themselves, who briefly banned it for violating their terms and conditions, before reinstating it after a hearty wave of backlash. The self-proclaimed Law Revue Girls created the video, entitled "Defined Lines" (a very clear comment on consent and a shot at Thicke). The ladies are surrounded by naked men, walking them on a leash, and singing about a "manifesto of the modern age" that breaks free from masculine confines. All in all, pretty much as catchy as the original.

Implications - Viral videos are a great way to spread a message and/or protest in a way that people will evoke a cultural connection.
