TikTok is Banning Deepfake Content on the Social Platform

TikTok announced that it will ban deepfake content on the platform in an effort to stop the spread of misinformation ahead of the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The platform also states that it will be improving its collaboration with third-party fact-checkers, in the lead up to the 2002 election. TikTok will also work alongside the Department of Homeland Security to eliminate potential instances of election interference.

The TikTok General Manager, Venessa Pappas, released a statement about the new efforts, ""Our intent is to protect users from things like shallow or deep fakes, so while this kind of content was broadly covered by our guidelines already, this update makes the policy clearer for our users."
