The David Johnson collection of fireworks imagery updates standard snapshots of bursts of light. The Canadian-based artist has done so through captures of abstract beams that have been transformed into a series of unusual, striking shapes.
To produce these images, Johnson applied a 1-2 second-long exposure. This proved to be the right amount of time necessary for the firecrackers as they burst into the air, revealing colorful explosions at every turn.
By shifting the focus of his camera, Johnson also delivered both hazy and evidently detailed pictures. Whether obscured or not, the formations present in his portfolio are mesmerizing through punches of red, pink and purple. Several of the pieces are also hyper real, making them appear as if live.
