The Dark Girls Series Promotes Equal Representation in Fashion Media

In an effort to empower dark girls to acknowledge and discover their own beauty, Brooklyn-based artist Brittany Brown created a new illustrated series. Her images are intended to challenge the lack of diversity she saw in fashion and beauty.

Dark Girls not only celebrates the beauty of women across gender, race and size, it also offers makeup suggestions so you can recreate the looks at home. The illustrator hopes to expand the beautiful series in hopes of inspiring confidence, increasing self-esteem and moving others to create change in the beauty industry. She notes representation is important; if little girls don't see women who look like them in magazines or other media, they could come to think they aren't beautiful either.
