Signify Makes Custom Light Fixtures from Recyclable Materials

Signify will soon be launching a new online service for creating custom light fixtures with recyclable materials. With this new service, users across Europe will have the ability to create their own 3D-printed shades and fittings from materials like recycled CDs. While 3D printing on its own is useful for reducing waste by making items only on demand, the service is further exploring sustainable production with materials that can be given a second life.

After creating a custom light fixture in the shape and color of their choosing, users will be able to have the finished product 3D-printed and delivered to them in a matter of weeks. Reportedly, Signify’s custom creations—excluding the electronics and the bulb—have a 47% lower carbon footprint as compared to traditional light fixtures.
