Fiona Aboud's 'Sikhs in America' Builds Compassionate Understanding

In an effort to gain a better understanding of Sikhism, New York-based photographer Fiona Aboud began a photographic exploration of these widely misunderstood people.

Over the past two years, Fiona has travelled all over the United States, meeting with and photographing Sikhs who are striving to assimilate to American society, while maintaining their cultural traditions.

This enlightening series of photographs effectively showcases Sikhs as an example of how specific cultural groups adapt to the melting pot of modern America, and show that despite living in a society fraught with misguided hate and discrimination, and bent on assimilation, they successfully manage to maintain their religious identity.
