Honeycomb Court Canopies

Cubierta Cazuca is Funded by Shakira's Barefoot Foundation

The Cubierta Cazuca is a unique basketball canopy that has been built in Altos de Cazucá, Bogota, Columbia. Sponsored by the Barefoot Foundation, a philanthropic organization founded by the Colombian singer-songwriter and booty-shaking Shakira, it provides a stunning protective shelter for children playing below.

Designed by Giancarlo Mazzanti, the Cubierta Cazuca is a cluster of dodecahedrons constructed out of wire mesh, translucent green tiles and tilted steel poles. The sun's natural light filters through the canopy during the day while at night embedded lights illuminate the court.

For the desperately poor suburb in which nearly 40% of the population have been displaced by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, the Cubierta Cazuca acts as a refuge and beacon of hope.
