Vivid Space Storm Recordings

The NASA 'ISS Passes Over Stormy Africa' Video is Mesmerizing

Orbiting the world are many, many satellites -- not all of which will be broadcasting the Superbowl -- and one of them has captured some cosmic lightning, which is documented in a video called 'ISS Passes Over Stormy Africa.' The images, courtesy of the brains over at NASA, document the intensity and artistry of lightning above the earth's atmosphere previously unseen by the general public.

Similar images have come out featuring the Northern lights, but none come close to the splendor that is this cosmic lightning. The video and subsequent images were taken over the top of Central Africa. Cosmic lightning was recorded by the crew of Expedition 30 on the International Space Station.

The video focuses on both the pocketed lightning storms showering over Africa and the unearthly glow of the Milky Way in the horizon. The cosmic lightning video is the latest in a series of videos released from NASA that are truly out of this world.
