The Copco Lake Pictures are Taken Once Every Five Years

The Copco Lake pictures feature a group of five buddies who sit in the same positions, with the same expressions, clutching the same props every five years. These photos have been taken every five years since 1982.

One of the guys had a cottage on the California lake, and they regularly got together there. The first picture was just an innocent photo-op, but soon it grew into something much more. John Wardlaw, Mark Rumer, Dallas Burney, John Molony and John Dickson decided five years after the original picture to recreate it, birthing a tradition. You can watch as these 19-year-old boys age into men, grow beards and go from comfortably shirtless to voluntarily clothed.

This long-term photo project has spanned 30 years -- a testament to the strength of their friendship and their unchanging personalities
