The Coopify App Aims to Create a More Equitable Sharing Economy

Coopify is a new app that helps co-ops succeed in the increasingly competitive sharing economy. Owned by co-op workers at Si Se Puede! as well as other New York City co-ops, the new platform is designed to help workers break into the sharing economy and ultimately give them more control and flexibility over their schedules.

Still in the development stage, the Coopify app is a project being spearheaded by researchers from Cornell Tech. The app functions as a platform where users can request services such as housecleaning, childcare or pet care. Unlike other apps built around the sharing economy, Coopify will send workers from local co-ops instead of those employed by big tech companies. The idea is that the platform will give co-op workers more access to clients and more flexibility when it comes to managing their schedules.

Set to launch sometime in 2017, the new app could help domestic workers use the sharing economy to their advantage.
