Church-Converted Theatres

Foster Wilson Architects Transform an Old Chapel into an Amphitheater

The Foster Wilson Architects firm recently under went a major protect of creating a converted theatre space from an antiquated church.

The feat of transforming a place of history and religious significance into a new space is a challenging one as it can take a careful balancing act to keep the heritage of the original space still relevant to the newly designed room. The church is originally located in Bedford, England and the new design keeps much of the space intact with several extensions to further expand the layout. The high ceilings, open concept and main facade were integrated into the new performance centre.

In addition to using the previously designed space of the church, Foster Wilson Architects also added a newly designed circular timber panelling complete with floor-to-ceiling windows and a bar to welcome guests.
