Ring-Shaped Contemporary Nursing Homes

Loop Architects' Design Encircles a Serene Central Garden

Danish studio Loop Architects built a chic, contemporary nursing home that strives to strike a balance between support and relaxation. The care home is located in Selfoss, Iceland. Loop Architects, who was commissioned by Icelandic government property agency FSRE, completed the structure in collaboration with Urban Arkitektar.

The two-story building can accommodate 50 residents in private rooms. The ring-shaped structure also boasts a private enclave in the middle, a beautifully landscaped central garden that has the potential to create "a homely and stimulating environment for residents [who are living] with dementia." The circular format of the building is designed to give the impression of "continuous movement."
