Confused Couture

The Commes des Garcon Fall 2011 show didn’t disappoint this week in Paris, with a collection that mixed and matched without following any rules. The ever-eccentric design house produced a collection of outfits that both confused and amused.

Among the Commes des Garcon Fall 2011 looks was a shiny black trench coat (snakeskin, perhaps?) paired with what looked like oversize black loafers. Was this a man? A woman? The shoes were very masculine, yet the voluminous golden hair and delicate face proved otherwise. At times androgynous, there were pieces that could have been worn by daring members of any gender.

Then there were the asymmetrical pieces, and not just differentiating in lines, but in fabrics and overall styles. One Commes des Garcon Fall 2011 outfit looked like a blazer was cut in half and sewed to a trench coat. Another looked like bundles of fabrics knotted together, like something to be thrown out a window to rescue a captured princess. These are truly looks for those who can’t make up their minds, or who simply want it all and won’t settle for compromise.

Another look featured very short, high-waist bloomers that billowed out under the ribs, too big for the model who was wearing a skin-toned top so shear, it could have been omitted altogether. To top it off, the look was paired with a front-less trench coat. This fearlessness and disregard for fashion norms is classic Comme des Garcons.
