Vibrant Wall Etchings

'Colored Memories' is Inspired by Childhood Scratchboard Art

'Colored Memories' is a pair of installations that cover the walls of two rooms at the Design Museum Holon in Israel. Created by Israeli artist and designer Itay Ohaly, the installations consist of black walls smothered in exceedingly vibrant and colorful artwork.

The two spaces differ in the colors and patterns they offer. The first space consists of an all-black wall which museum visitors are invited to scratch on, revealing the vibrant colors painted beneath. This space represents visitors' interpretations of color and pattern. The second space consists of the artist's visions, planned and etched using a CNC machine.

By pairing the artist's intricate visions with the more free-form interpretations of museum visitors, 'Colored Memories' fuses the playful analog world with the professional digital one using color etching techniques.
