I often look at very complex paintings and wonder how an artist knew when they were complete, but paintings by Colin Chillag have me asking the opposite. How does he know when he's done touching up his work, before he even reaches the touch-up phase?
In this sequence of paintings, Colin Chillag has painted various elderly figures, but not entirely. He leaves parts of his pictures in their sketched forms while painting the rest in detail right down to every wrinkle. It seems he leaves the rest up to the audience's imagination. What colors does one think would complete the painting? It's an interactive take on painting and allows the viewer admire each part of his painting from different angles.
