Coil by Akihisa Hirata Uses the Letter S to Make a Slithery Masterpiece

Coil by Akihisa Hirata is an architectural masterpiece. The Tokyo, Japan architects designed a home for a client that resembles the sensual curves of the letter 'S.'

The stairs of the home slither and loop around three main supporting white pillars. Rooms are cleverly placed in the the blind spots of the walls so that they seamlessly mold into the design and the stairs become the focal point of the house. The wooden flooring of each room connects to the stairway to create continuity.

Coil by Akihisa Hirata contains a kitchen, various bedrooms and a dining area located at the very top of the stairs. The nooks and crannies that appear while climbing the mountainous steps make ideal corners for lounging areas. Looking at the exterior view of the house, you would never know that the pleasant white-walled rectangular home is a typographic marvel.
