This Stunning Coastline Series Shows Busy Beaches and Alienation

32-year-old photographer Zhang Xiao of the Shandong province in China was inspired by the question of how the densely populated country's citizens spend their days through his Coastline Series. His series of photographs is called Coastline. The series offers a glimpse into the everyday lives of the people of Shandong, focusing on aesthetics of the landscape and the people that occupy the images.

The result of his series is an awareness of the appreciation of the balance between the existing shadows, forms, color and reflections in the images. Zhang Xiao’s excellent eye for finding the beauty in monotonous daily activities are reflected in his series of pictures that feature the Shandong province’s busy coastline.
