Cloud-based technology is a system where all of your information and applications are stored on the web rather than on your hard drive--in the clouds, so to speak, floating around for you to access when you want to, from anywhere you want to.
Google’s GDrive has been on the tips of tongues for a while now, but it seems that the GDrive is no longer a rumor. Google has been working hard to get this latest in the Google line of products off the ground.
Cloud-based technology is not new. Microsoft and Apple have both ventured into the clouds, just to name a couple, but Google plans to take it to another level by creating a virtual hard drive "in the clouds."
The Google GDrive, if Google’s plans are realized, will eliminate the need for a hard drive on your computer altogether. All of a user’s documents and applications will be stored on the GDrive and can be accessed anytime and anywhere, from any computer, all in real time.
Whether or not this plan will fly to the extent Google would like it to is still a big question. Would you trust all of your files and apps to a cloud-based hard drive?
Google GDrive promises complete integration with all Google services and, especially appealing, absolute portability.
It’s too soon to tell how users will take to this new GDrive, but regardless of how cool it seems, I believe I’ll keep a copy of my stuff on my own hard drive.
