Artist Rodger Stevens is Constantly Inspired by His Urban Surroundings

When it comes to city sculptures, artist Rodger Stevens is greatly inspired by his urban surroundings. Born and bred in New York City, this is only natural. Yet it is interesting to note that many of his city sculptures revolve around everyday objects including scaffolding, fire hydrants and even manhole covers.

Working predominantly with steel, wire and iron, Stevens manages to give his city sculptures a whimsical touch that removes them from their ordinary posts. About his process, Stevens shares, "I get really anxious to get it done, and I pretty much am just fabricating what I already made in my head completely. I’m not even watching what I’m doing, I just have to get it out, and follow the blueprint that I have in my head, as closely as I can."
