This Barber Creates Child Haircuts When Patrons Have Read a Book

Iowa-based barber Courtney Holmes set up a hair dressing booth at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and gave away complimentary child haircuts to visitors who read him a book. The idea for this charitable cause is to encourage children to read, while simultaneously giving the kids a fresh look for the new school year ahead.

His ultimate reason for offering free child haircuts is to promote literacy among youth. Courtney Holmes set up a booth with a salon chair and a table of books. When kids approached the booth, Courtney told them to select a book and read it aloud while he cut their hair. If the children couldn't read it, Courtney still encouraged them to select a book while helping them read it.

This type of wholesome and educational event aids in child education and broadens their level of compassion. The event titled 'Back to School Bash' was created by 'My Brother's Keeper' and the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque.
