Lagerfeld Endorses ‘Yellow Face' for Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 Shanghai

Karl Lagerfeld likes the idea of China so much that he would rather have a European model’s face painted to look Chinese than hire an actual Asian model. This is what the politically-incorrect designer (who recently referred to round women as "fat mummies") did for his Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 Shanghai show.

The Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 Shanghai show featured a short film called ‘Paris-Shanghai: A Fantasy.’ Alongside Asian extras were Caucasian models wearing ‘yellow face’ makeup, which was meant to make them look Asian. Lagerfeld told WWD, "It is an homage to Europeans trying to look Chinese… It is about the idea of China, not the reality."
