When most of us think of urns made out of porcelain, the first thoughts that come to mind are smooth and well-defined contours, but ceramic design artist Michal Fargo's Else project is a great example of the jagged beauty that thinking outside of the mold can create.
Else is a project that deals with the tremendous gaps between craft and design. Rather than attempting to create a ceramic design in the soft and typical contours of most pottery, Fargo instead created a technique that ditched these boring molds for free-form design.
Michal was able to achieve his special ceramic designs by first forming sponge models which he then dunked into specially created porcelain mixes, and the results of this inventive procedure were the free flowing forms he's now famous for.
