Cell Phone Disco

LEDs, Music and Mobile Phones

Cell Phone Disco, an experimental art installation by Ursula Lavrencic and Auke Touwslager, blends art, music and technology into a microcosm of nightlife. The LED lights that comprise the installation are triggered by a sensor when the electromagnetic radiation cell phones transmit are detected.

Making a phone call suddenly becomes a social experience. When a call is placed, lights illuminate the area around the cell phone. As the user walks or moves around, the phone's 'aura' follows it through the space.

After traveling through the United States, Cell Phone Disco will appear next at Youniverse at the Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla.
