VR Kitty Campaigns

'CatVR' is an April Fools Gag by Zoos Victoria and the RSPCA

Everyone inherently recognizes that cats are the most intelligent animals on the planet; CatVR is merely a new product that acknowledges that fact explicitly. Or at least it would if it existed. CatVR is actually part of a cheeky April Fools campaign put forward by Zoos Victoria and the RSPCA to promote safe and responsible cat ownership throughout Australia.

What's interesting about CatVR as compared to the average April Fools prank is how straight the creators play it. Though the tech is obviously silly, Zoos Victoria and the RSPCA teamed up with Isobar, a tech-influenced branding agency, to not only come up with the idea but also release a detailed 12-page white paper called 'PVRR: Pet Virtual Reality Research'. The document claims that the researchers took EEG, EKG, and GSR data on cats to understand their emotional states and create the best possible VR content based on the results. It remains unclear whether or not this research actually took place.

If those charmed by the campaign dig deep enough, the real-world thrust becomes clear. Cats account for a surprisingly large degree of wild animal deaths due to their hunting instincts, and though CatVR and PVRR are fictional, they preach a message of keeping house cats indoors.
