Autonomous Cashier Stations

Panasonic's Checkout Robot Automatically Scans and Bags Items

Electronics company Panasonic recently demonstrated capabilities of its robotic cashier station in a Lawson outlet in Osaka, Japan.

While the process of picking up even just a few items at the store can involve a lot of loading and unloading, Panasonic's automated system makes it possible for machines to perform these repetitive actions rather than people.

After browsing the store and adding any desired items to one's basket, a shopper may head to the smart checkout station and place the handheld cart in the designated area. In this holding area, the items are scanned and the contents verified on a screen within a matter of seconds. Following this, the bottom of the basket drops out so that the few small goods are instantly bagged.
