Christie Tan's Drawings Intertwine Food and Animals in a Captivating Way

The phrase "don't play with your food" may have very little meaning to children, but it means absolutely nothing to the illustrator Christie Tan. Her creativity shines through as she pairs playful drawings of animals with food, and then adds a 3D visual effect using ordinary household items.

After drawing perfectly sweet animals such as dogs, birds and fish, she places them in the most unconventional settings -- food. The stage for many of her drawings are just over-sized plates of food, a martini glass or a piece of an orange so large that a chicken can stand inside it. Next she adds a physical aspect to her artwork with a pen, chop sticks or anything of the like.

She incorporates these real items to infuse life-like aspects into purely cartooned images. For example, one image shows a bowl of noodles accompanied by actual chop sticks holding up the fake noodles.

Snapping pictures of her work, Tan has a mass collection posted on Instagram with hundreds of images showcasing her style.
