Carlos Zwick's New Lakehouse Draws Inspiration from Mies van der Rohe

Architect Carlos Zwick has reimagined the traditional lake home in a new lakefront treehouse.

The home sits on the historic lake property in Postdam, Germany. The house is owned by the architect himself, who wanted to create an inviting family-oriented lake retreat. The architect drew inspiration from architect Mies van der Rohes' Farnsworth House - a single-story home cantilevered above the ground by steel posts.

The home sits above ground on steel stilts and is clad with timber. The home is single-storied and is nestled perfectly around the existing trees on the property. The home is completed with large sliding panels which allow for panoramic views of the water. The main living space has an open-concept plan, however, the architect made sure it can eventually be divided into private spaces if new accommodating arrangements are required as the family grows.
