Antivenom-Delivering UAVs

The WeRobotics Cargo Drone Brings Medicine to the Peruvian Amazon

A cargo drone can be used for delivery purposes, and now they are also being used to bring snake antivenom to the Amazon Rainforest. WeRobotics is making healthcare more accessible to remote communities by using new technology in the form of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This transportation method shortens the delivery time of emergency antivenom to a life-saving 35 minutes, compared to a 6 hour boat journey humans would have to undertake.

Based in Delaware, WeRobotics partnered with Peru Flying Labs as well as Peru's Ministry of Health for this program. They modified a terrain-mapping UAV to carry the antivenom-containing cold pack. So far the cargo drone has successfully completed two trips between Contamana and the remote Amazonian village of Pampa Hermosa.
