Gas-Detecting Wallpaper

Artful Wall Provides Visual Warning and Filter System

Central St. Martin’s student Chloe Albert is working on a way to replace ugly and outdated carbon monoxide detectors with carbon monoxide-detecting wallpaper. Her invention is a perfect fusion of function and design, using modules fixed to paper that can detect VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and actually filter them at the same time.

As the air pollutants accumulate, the modules spin creating the pleasant visual experience, and a warning system at the same time. Interior and graphic designers could go crazy here, creating inspiring wall designs integrating the new technology. A fashionable life-saver!
