Distraction-Free Creative Residences

These California Cabins are Designed to Fight Writer's Block

These California cabins are purposefully designed to encourage the creative spirit and combat writer's block. The Diane Middlebrook Studios -- a set of four 280 square foot cottages -- were designed by Cass Calder Smith for the Djerassi Resident Artist Program. Built specifically for authors who need to focus on writing, the buildings particularly emphasizes the natural beauty of the land and gives writers access to the spectacular surrounding views.

The intentionally distraction-free California cabins take a somewhat severe approach to the creative process, similar to how Henry David Thoreau preferred to live. The four structures are close in proximity, but do not share any walls so residents can concentrate on their work but not be completely isolated.
