Award-winning design firm Nex Architecture won the international competition in creating one of the most ingenious and adaptable cafes in the United Kingdom: the Cadogan Cafe.

Situated in the Duke of York Square in Chelsea, the spiral cafe features two levels that shapeshift according to the weather. Shaped like a coil, the Cadogan Cafe is able to expand and retract the walls on the lower level to promote air flow through the premises in warmer weather. The roof also rises and falls depending on the weather, allowing diners enjoy iced coffees on the patio or even view the beautiful city and its passersby through the glass walls. The elegant design of the coiled building offers a simple solution to lower energy costs as well as allowing visitors to admire the surrounding scenery.
