ByteDance Introduces New Youth Controls to Its Social Media App Douyin

Douyin - the Chinese version of TikTok - will now implement youth controls in an effort to limit screen addiction. Run by company ByteDance, this new feature will detect users under the age of 14 and will automatically set their accounts to 'Youth Mode.'

Accounts set under Youth Mode will be limited to 40-minutes of screen time on the app. Moreover, children under 14 will not be granted access to Douyin between 10 pm and 6 am. The app encourages parents to register their children's information so that their real names and ages are listed, and therefore, appropriate youth restrictions are exercised. ByteDance has also added educationally focused content to Douyin - including science and history-based content.

These new gaming restrictions and content updates will aid in preventing gaming addiction and will encourage learning.
