The renovation by BURR Studio converts a once-vacant fur shop in Madrid into a compact dwelling filled with natural light. The architects retained the building’s L-shaped layout and inserted a mezzanine to separate living and sleeping areas within a limited footprint. Openings at both ends create natural cross-ventilation, while the interior’s clean geometry emphasizes volume and openness. A sculptural white staircase serves as the central feature, integrating storage and access while maintaining visual lightness.
The upper level is wrapped in warm timber, contrasting with the crisp white surfaces below. Concrete floors and minimalist finishes preserve a sense of honesty and calm throughout. The design maximizes spatial efficiency without compromising comfort, showing how thoughtful proportions and light can transform a small commercial space into a serene urban home.
