'Braille Bricks' are the name of a set of building block toys that have been specifically designed for children with impaired vision.
These toys are a design from the Dorina Nowill Foundation for the Blind that takes inspiration from the traditional LEGO block shape. Just as classic LEGO building blocks have small raised knobs on them for interlocking, the Braille Blocks also have bumps on them so that kids can learn to piece together words from the braille alphabet.
In school, many kids are taught the braille alphabet by using a typewriter that permanently punches the surface of a paper. Braille Blocks give kids greater freedom and flexibility when it comes to making mistakes, as the blocks can can simply be rearranged to form new words with the correct spelling.
