These Brooks-Range Tents Reduce Reliance on Complicated Pole Setups

Outdoor equipment manufacturer Brooks-Range developed the 'Tension' tent, a tent that does away with the classic multi-pole system for an integrated elastic cord design that is lighter and easier to set up.

The Brooks-Range Tension tents haven't completely eliminated hard poles, but have lessened the reliance on them with its internal cord system. Instead of the elaborate X and Y pole systems common on most tents, the Tension tent uses a single, central carbon pole and two small cross poles that are way easier to set up.

There are two Tension tents, a two-person 30-square-foot Tension 30 and the three-person Tension 40, which cost $420 and $460, respectively. These tents are aimed at backpackers, mountaineers and other campers looking for a hassle-free tent that minimizes the weight they need to haul around.
