Judgmental Book Covers

This Book Sleeve Scans Faces to Determine Levels of Prejudice

Amsterdam-based creative studio Moore is behind the design for 'The Cover That Judges You,' an interactive book sleeve that can deny readers' entry based on the level of prejudice found in their expression.

Equipped with a camera and facial recognition technology, the book cover scans anyone who approaches. If the person's expression betrays any extreme emotion, regardless of whether it's over-enthusiasm or lack of excitement, the book stays firmly shut. A neutral expression, on the other hand, will trigger the Arduino micro-controller to unlock the cover.

We're told not to "judge a book by its cover," but it's a turn of phrase that's much easier said than done. This book sleeve not only reveals our own judgmental tendencies, it also serves as a reminder to crack open the first chapter before coming to any conclusions!
