Blacktop Bloom is a Social Enterprise and Urban Farm

Based in New Haven, Connecticut, Blacktop Bloom is a social enterprise start-up that was recently announced to be one of the Echoing Green Fellowship Finalists for this year. The urban farm offers weekly delivery services that can be ordered online (you can also pick them up if you wish).

Blacktop Bloom attempts to be affordable and also attempts to generate community through workshops, volunteering, interactive ecology lessons and more under their greenhouses. "Our growing stations take up less space than five parking spots, but each one can produce over 8,000 lbs of food with 10x less greenhouse gas emissions, water, and energy than conventional method," they write on their own sustainability practices.
