Google Arts and Culture Partnered with the Black Cultural Archives

In an effort to preserve key elements of Black culture and history, the Black Cultural Archives -- an organization founded in 1981 by Len Garrison -- partnered with Google Arts and Culture to digitize its collection. The documentation of African and Caribbean culture will serve to help people from these descents to understand their roots as "it can often feel like the rich black history has been erased."

The Black Cultural Archives is now bringing images, artifacts, and artwork online to allow more individuals to appreciate the rich and diverse history of black culture. One intriguing aspect of the project includes the Black Women's Movement which underscores the rise of black feminism in the United Kingdom through works done by the Organisation of Women of African and Asian Descent (OWAAD).

Arike Oke, the managing director of Black Culture Archives stated: "as BCA is the home of Black British history, it's extremely fitting that we've been able to collaborate with Google on this important project. The fact that people from across the world will now be able to access our archive digitally is a perfect compliment to our mission to put our history on the map."
